Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Before you continue reading this blog. Let me remind you. I'm happy winning as the 2nd place of Himig Lycean 2009. No more issues about not winning it. I am thankful. I'm happy that I had a chance to share my passion to all the Lyceans, and that is performing. What I will be talking about on this blog was the side of people who are concern in this contest.
First, last February 21, 2009 was the elimination round of Himig Lycean. The ten finalists were announced. One girl against the nine boys. I have been preparing my singing battle with the boys already until last Wednesday, the Lyceum Chorale (organizer of the contest) called for a rehearsal for our production number on the upcoming finals. When I entered the rehearsal room, I was expecting to see an all-boy group practicing. But I was surprised because their are 2 girls practicing for the Dreamgirls number already. I asked who are they and Kuya Art (President of L. Chorale) told me that they are the wildcards. Oh Okay. I didn't ask for details anymore. I practiced the number with the wildcards. And I was also surprised that the picture of the wildcards were in the Tarpaulin already! My gosh! they had just informed me just that very day and then I would see that they know already that they were competing in the finals even before me knowing it!!! So now we are 12 finalists already. Even the guy finalists were telling that there should be no wildcards. WHAT'S THE SENSE OF HAVING ELIMINATION ROUND?
When I got home, I texted the other eliminated contestants if they know about the wildcard thing. And they told me NO! THEY DON"T KNOW THAT THERE WILL BE WILDCARDS. Isn't it unfair for them? A lot of them complained because they didn't know how did the 2 came up as the wildcards. There should have been a WILDCARD ROUND to make it formal!
The day after, I told my barkada about it and they were also disappointed. They were asking how did the 2 made it. Is it because of the popularity tickets? or their average? how about the other eliminated contestants?
FYI, the contest is the fund raising project of Lyceum Chorale for their upcoming international tour.
During the finals, I didn't sell popularity tickets anymore thinking that I can win by focusing on my musicality. It's a singing contest anyway not a MONEY contest. Crisel(the winner) asking me about my tickets and she told me that she remit a lot of tickets on the final day. I told her, I'm not going to remit anymore.
Then announcement of winners came, I told Makato Inoue, one of the guy finalists, that he's my bet. He has a very wonderful voice. He peformed well and delivered his song smoothly. There's no way he would not get any place. Even my classmates were expecting him to win. He told me that I'm his bet too.
When I was called as the second placer, the audience became quiet. Only my classmates were shouting for me. I flashed a smile to Mak. I'm expecting him to be called as the champion, I even told him, "MAK YOU WILL BE THE WINNER!" but a different name was called. I was shocked. A wildcard won. As Crisel accepting her trophy, the other finalists were shouting "wildcardwildcard".Some were shouting "andaya! bakit puro wildcard?!".
The third placer is Ate jen, a wildcard at an average of 90%. The second placer is yours truly, Anna Jean at an average of 90.7%. And the winner is Crisel, a wildcard at an average of 91%.
This story can be justified by the people who had watched all the contestants' performances. They know who deserve winning and who's not. I'm expecting some of the boys having a place. They were all good. I don't know what happened. My mom recorded the whole program. I've watched and listened to it. I can see the disappointment on the boys' eyes after the announcement.
I had been keeping all this thoughts by myself but I couldn't. I had talked to other eliminated contestants last Saturday and they wanted to complain. They could have been at the finals too and win. But I can't do anything now.=( Everything happened already. Maybe, everybody will be happy if the winner is not a wildcard. Or if a wildcard is formally competed by all eliminated contestants and not just picked by whoever chosen them to be finalists.
I had accepted my place the moment I was called. It's a blessing and I'm very happy!!!=) I didn't asked God to let me win but I asked Him just to give me what I deserve. And I believe that I deserve what I've got.=)
THANK YOU FOR ALL THE SUPPORT!!!
Finally, natapos na din ang paglusot ko sa butas ng karayom after I was announced as one of the finalist of Himig Lycean 2009.
There were 46 contestants who passed the auditions but only 26 were qualified to compete during the elimination round yesterday. Yey! And I was one of them.
Nakakatuwa lang kasi, sobrang naiiyak na talga ko kahapon ng madaling araw because sobrang walng lumalabas na boses skin!!!!!! habang nagshshower ako, nagvocalize ako and ampangit ng lumalabas skin na boses.. I almost gave up. I turned out singing all the offertory songs I know to vocalize my voice. That's my way of offering and praying to our Lord for my performance that day.
AND SUPER EFFECTIVE TALAGA ANG PRAYERS! Miracle talaga.. I found my voice again during my performance. Astig! Salamat talga sa mga tumulong skin magdasal. God is great!
Then, it was the announcement of the 10 finalist. The first seven names that was called were all boys.. woah! I was so nervooooooooous! I thought I will never be called already so I wasn't expecting anymore. Finally, I heard " contestant no.3" being called by the emcee.. And yes! It was me! I made it!! wohoo!
What was surprising is the 2 finalists left were boys too.. OMG.. boys category ba ito? haha.. I'm the only rose among the thorns! okay.. grabe..naloka talga ako..Pano ko kakalabanin ang 9 na Adan?! haha.. Itatayo ko ang bandera ng mga EBA! lol.. But I really am too happy.
That was an answered prayer. Thank you to all who supported me. Continue to pray for me till finals.
Whatever may happen in the finals, it's already a victory for me being part of it. It's already an achievement for me. And to all the girls out there, WE ROCK!

It was brought to us by UP Samaskom.. it's an organization in University of the Philippines of Masscom Students there.
It's too good that our professor in Broadcast Media was a member of that org before. Since it's their 25th anniversary and it's UP's centennial celebration too, the show was participated by the alumni of UP Samaskom. We were all invited! yes! Thanks to our prof. Wally Labajo. He let us experience their most special show in their history since it's their silver.
The show started later than it had to start. But it's ok. All the time we waited just worth it! The show really rocked the whole UP Theater. Everyone bursted with boisterous laughter especially when the impersonator of the present first lady of United States, Michelle Obama got out of the stage. Man! She-slash-he (cause he's gay) is really an epitome of Mrs. Obama. She states how we CAN do anything. She was stating "Yes we can, coke in can and orocan" anything but can all over.
Then on the pageant for Diliman Darling, our prof acts as the host, dressed like a lady and proved us, his students, that he's really a bitch. lol. He also had a role as a cheerleader of UP Pepe Squad..yes pepe..hihi=)
There was also their own version of Internet sensation Charice Pempengco , Amber Glamourosa, who has her tagalized song Ga-la-a-ma-o-ra-u-sa..hehe.. being syllabicated with our traditional Abakada alphabet.
What I really can't forget was the UP Oblation Run!!!! The mouth of the audience including mine left hanging open when at the end of the segment, there came running nude guys! Gosh! I've seen a lot of birds out there huh..haha..=) Well, that's one of my favorite part because they spoofed the Don't-lie-to-me segment of John Lapus where the one who impersonated him had a production numbers too.
One of my favorites also was the ISANG-PINGGANG-PANSIT portion. Three samapaguita vendors battled for the pearl of one rich lady. But they have to do their best to act their own version of isang-pinggang-pansit piece just like in Little Miss Philippines talent protion. One is a "maldita" girl who idolizes Scarlet of "Iisa Pa Lamang", the other is a girl who idolizes Judy Ann Santos who is always being bullied and the other one is gay. They delivered the lines of the piece with their own personality which was really funny especially the Scarlet-girl. In the end, no one won because the pearl was snatched. (Our prof here had a cameo role as one of joggers around UP Oval.)
Next, is the feature of the first and only student of UP. She had the ribbon-cutting of Ikot jeep and isaw stand. Too funny but the time had been dragged by this segment.
And there went Tuesday Vargas. She acts as Silveria who was hit by lightning when she was born and had a mark on her forehead just like Harry Potter. She has a super hero characteristics bec. she was so fast. She just stated the story of her life which was really funny. Tuesday acted well. She was so sexy, pretty and hilarious. I even had a pic with her at the end of the show!
And the last part was the UP lagoon feature which was the combination of Little mermaid and Dyesebel with a twist. Though I wasn't paying attention anymore on that part still the costume was so captivating.
I salute all the scriptwriters of the show. It lasted for four hours but every part was still clear in my mind even though days passed already from the show. Our class has still hangover of the show. We keep on repeating all the funny lines from the show. I'll never forget this. Although the ticket was expensive, I didn't had any regrets.
Hay.. I still wish that someday, we can produce a spectacular show like that. I'd even wish I'm studying at UP..haha..=) But of course, I'm proud to be Lycean!!!=)
